WW1 Vintage Street

As part of the World War 1 commemorative events, Ashbourne in Derbyshire held a Vintage Street Market in the Market Place on Sunday. It was a beautifully warm sunny day and the town was thronging with people taking the opportunity to mark the 100 years since the start of the First World War whilst enjoying the lovely weather.

We took along our retro stall which this week was stacked high with furniture, kitchenalia, eclectic and kitsch novelties. It was a lively day and had a real buzz about it. The market hosted live music, a vintage caravan cafe serving cream teas, ice cream bike, clothing, furniture, and bric-a-brac with many stall holders in WW1 period costume. A First World War Memorabilia Exhibition was held in the Town Hall, that culminated in a recreation of the Declaration of War from the balcony of the Town Hall, followed by a parade by the Silver Band and Ex Servicemen marching to the Church.

This is a sample of some views from our stall of the sights of the day…
